Managing Director, Public Affairs

As the Managing Director for Public Affairs, Nasserie Carew is responsible for managing public affairs and media relations functions within the Department of Congressional and Public Affairs.  As part of her duties Nasserie is responsible for developing strategic communications plans, assisting in brand and message development, identifying key messages for the agency across all media and internet platforms and deepening relationships with MCC stakeholders.

Nasserie has an extensive background in issues management, media relations and branding.  She has over 16 years of strategic external communications experience and has developed numerous national and international integrated campaigns on innovative programs and policy initiatives.

Prior to joining MCC, Nasserie served as the Senior Director for Public Relations at InterAction – the largest coalition of U.S. based international NGOs. She was responsible for all external communications, including a comprehensive public relations effort focused on positioning, media advocacy and member relations.

As a Senior Public Relations Program Manager for the Center for Health Communication at the Academy for Educational Development (AED), she managed several communication initiatives, including: Project Safe Neighborhoods, funded by the Department of Justice, and the National Immunization Coalition Partnership Project, funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Prior to joining AED, she held the position of Director of communications for the YWCA USA. In this capacity, she had overall responsibility for national communication policies and strategic positioning of the YWCA USA. She oversaw the development and implementation of internal and external communications, including the YWCA’s multi-million-dollar branding campaign.

Nasserie has conducted numerous trainings and seminars on development communication.  She is a graduate of the University of Iowa and earned a master’s degree at Howard University.
