Benin’s Access to Land Project Evaluation
Project Description
As part of the five-year Compact between the Millennium Challenge Corporation and the Republic of Benin, the Access to Land Project aims to strengthen property rights for the poor and non-poor alike and to create effective, transparent governance of land and property issues. The project is designed to reduce the time and cost required to obtain a land title, reduce the number of land disputes and increase confidence in the viability of land investments.
Evaluation Description
The objective of the evaluation is to estimate the program’s impact on investment and income, as well as changes in household consumption. The evaluation in rural areas will use an experimental approach, using random selection of 300 villages to receive rural land plans. Of those 300 villages, 140 are included in the Benin national household survey sample. For more information see the Benin Country Page.
Data Collection
The evaluation team will use data from Benin’s national household survey (EMICoV) which is conducted by INSAE (Institut National de la Statistique et de l’Analyse Economique).
