Ambassador Mark Green
CEO, Initiative for Global Development
Ambassador Mark Green is President & CEO of the Initiative for Global Development (IGD), a nonprofit organization that engages corporate leaders to reduce poverty through business growth and investment in Africa. A recognized leader in the foreign policy and business communities, Green served as the U.S. Ambassador to Tanzania from mid-2007 to early 2009. While there he led a mission of more than 350 Americans and Tanzanians and was ultimately responsible for some of the world’s largest U.S.-led development programs.
Prior to serving as U.S. Ambassador, Green served four terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he helped craft key policy initiatives including the Millennium Challenge Act and President Bush’s history-making AIDS program. Most recently, he served as Senior Director at the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition, a network of 400 businesses, NGOs, policy experts, and other leaders supporting a smart power approach to American foreign policy.
Ambassador Green serves on the Board of Directors of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), having been appointed to that post by President Barack Obama and confirmed by the Senate in 2010. He also serves on the Center for Strategic and International Studies Executive Council on Development and co-chairs the Consensus for Development Reform, a coalition of policy and business leaders devising new principles for making development policy more effective and growth-oriented. Alongside many other activities, Green is a Board Member of WorldTeach and serves on the Former Members of Congress Association Diplomatic Advisory Council and the Council on Foreign Relations.
Ambassador Green holds an honorary Doctor of Science Degree from Georgetown University’s School of Nursing and Health Studies, a JD from the University of Wisconsin Law School, and a BA from the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire.
Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President, Pike Electric
Mr. Pike is a third generation leader of the Pike Electric Corporation. He was named President of the Company in 1998, Chief Executive Officer in 2002, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors in 2005. He also served as Vice President of the Central Region from 1993 until 1998 and in various other roles after joining the Company on a full time basis in 1990 as an A-Class lineman.
He has served on the Board of Directors for Oxford College of Emory University and the Forsyth Country Day school and currently serves on the Executive Committee for OSHA’s Transmission and Distribution Strategic Partnership. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in history from Emory University.
Chief of Staff, Millennium Challenge Corporation
Mr. Kaufmann is the Chief of Staff at the Millennium Challenge Corporation, serving as the lead advisor to the agency’s Chief Executive Officer by providing guidance and leadership on corporate strategy, operations, and policy matters.
Prior to MCC, Mr. Kaufmann was a litigation partner at the international law firm of Morrison & Foerster, LLP, focusing on complex commercial disputes and working extensively on class actions, antitrust cases, securities litigation and employment matters. Just before joining the administration, Mr. Kaufmann served as the chair of the firm’s Global Litigation Department for three years, overseeing over 500 attorneys and an extensive support staff in 14 cities around the world.
Before law school, Mr. Kaufmann worked for the consulting firm of ICF, Inc., where he undertook economic analysis of energy markets and related environmental issues. He also served as a law clerk to Hon. John L. Kane of the United States District Court for the District of Colorado.
Mr. Kaufmann received his B.A. degree, summa cum laude, with high honors from Wesleyan University in 1980, and received his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Michigan in 1984, where he was a member of the University of Michigan Journal of Law Reform. He previously served on the board of directors for National Jewish Health, the Colorado Lawyer’s Committee, and the Colorado “I Have a Dream” Foundation.
CEO, Malaria No More
Martin Edlund is a founding member and CEO of Malaria No More. During his tenure at Malaria No More, he has implemented high-profile engagement campaigns leveraging cutting edge mobile, social, and e-commerce platforms as Chief Marketing Officer. He has been instrumental in shaping the narrative of the complex and evolving issue of malaria for leadership audiences across the globe, beginning with his work around the White House Summit on Malaria.
Edlund also lived and worked in West Africa as Malaria No More’s Director of New Programs, where he helped launch innovative net distribution and education campaigns with country leadership and local partners in Senegal, Cameroon, and Chad.
Prior to joining MNM, Martin was a journalist for The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The New Republic and Slate, among other publications, and a political consultant in Washington, D.C., specializing in online campaign strategies.
