MCC CEO Daniel Yohannes Announces Steven M. Kaufmann as Chief of StaffWashington, D.C.â€”Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Chief Executive Officer Daniel W. Yohannes announced today that Steven M. Kaufmann has joined MCC as Chief of Staff.
â€œStevenâ€™s insight, experience and integrity will be a great contribution to MCC. Steven is a hands-on, action-oriented professional with a proven record of leadership, innovation, and commitment,â€ said Mr. Yohannes. â€œHe is uniquely prepared to help manage MCC and continue our forward momentum as we work to reduce poverty and promote economic growth. I have great confidence that his depth of experience will create long-term success for MCC.â€
As MCC Chief of Staff, Mr. Kaufmann will serve as a principal advisor to the CEO and as an integral member of the senior management team. He will support the CEOâ€™s management of the agencyâ€™s administrative and program issues, providing leadership and direction. Mr. Kaufmann will ensure that the CEOâ€™s vision and priorities are implemented in all aspects of MCCâ€™s operations.
Prior to his appointment at MCC, Mr. Kaufmann was a litigation partner at the international law firm of Morrison & Foerster, LLP. He practiced law for over 20 years, focusing on complex commercial disputes and working extensively on class actions, antitrust cases, securities litigation, and employment matters. In April, Mr. Kaufmann completed his term serving as the chair of the firmâ€™s Global Litigation Department, overseeing more than 500 attorneys around the world. He was a managing partner of Morrison & Foersterâ€™s Denver office for seven years.
Mr. Kaufmann also has served on a number of boards, including National Jewish Health, the Colorado Lawyerâ€™s Committee, and the Colorado â€œI Have a Dreamâ€ Foundation. From 1984 to 1985, Mr. Kaufmann served as a law clerk to Honorable John L. Kane of the United States District Court for the District of Colorado. Mr. Kaufmann received his B.A. from Wesleyan University and his J.D. from University of Michigan Law School.
