Remarks of MCC CEO Daniel Yohannes at Symbion Power Event in Tanzania as Prepared for Delivery

Hamjambo! Vipi Mambo?

What a pleasure to welcome Secretary of State Clinton, who chairs the Board of Directors of the Millennium Challenge Corporation, to this power plant!

It is good to be back in Tanzania.  As proof of the strong partnership between the United States and Tanzania, this country benefits from MCC’s largest compact to date, a 698 million dollar investment in three key sectors: transportation, water, and energy.

Specifically in the energy sector, the MCC partnership supports a new 100 megawatt submarine power cable to link Zanzibar to the mainland.

Thanks to private sector partners, like Symbion Power and Pike Electric, we also will provide over 3,000 kilometers of transmission and distribution lines throughout Tanzania and construct 24 power sub-stations.

These strategic investments will expand economic opportunities and improve the lives of Tanzanians.

And to sustain these results, we will continue to engage the private sector – the engine of growth, job creation and innovation.

Thank you very much, and please welcome our private sector partner Mr. Paul Hinks to introduce Secretary Clinton.
