As Acting Vice President of Public Affairs in MCC’s Congressional and Public Affairs Department, Lorelle Atkinson is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing the agency’s communications, media, public engagement, digital and outreach strategies, as well as forging and deepening relationships with the agency’s key stakeholders including NGOs, opinion leaders and think tanks. As head of MCC’s public affairs team, she also has responsibility for the agency’s brand and message development, event planning and execution, Speakers Bureau and social media strategies.
Prior to joining MCC, Ms. Atkinson was Director of Outreach and Communications at Women Thrive, a leading non-profit that works toward economic equality for women around the world. She led the organization’s advocacy efforts to improve aid effectiveness and integrate gender throughout U.S. foreign assistance and foreign policy. She co-chaired a coalition of 100 organizations whose members worked with Congress and the George W. Bush Administration to introduce the bipartisan International Violence Against Women Act (I-VAWA). Ms. Atkinson was also Senior Field Organizer at People For the American Way, where she developed and executed outreach and communications plans for national and issue-based campaigns on public education, civil liberties, equal rights and election administration.
