WASHINGTON, D.C., November 18, 2020 – Today, Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Chief Executive Officer Sean Cairncross participated in a live TV interview with anchor Esther Awoniyi on CNBC Africa’s Closing Bell. The interview focused on the recent release of MCC’s Fiscal Year 2021 Country Scorecards and the agency’s work throughout West Africa.

“MCC is a terrific example of what the U.S. has to offer the world. It’s a model that is based on a country-led design, and we engage civil society and our partner governments to ensure that our investments are economically viable and sustainable,” said MCC CEO Sean Cairncross. “We’re proud of our record in Africa and around the world, and we’re excited to see this mission continue.”

The MCC Country Scorecards consist of a collection of 20 independent, third-party indicators that measure a country’s policy performance in the areas of economic freedom, ruling justly, and investing in their people. The scorecards are a key component in MCC’s annual competitive selection process that determines which countries are eligible for its assistance programs.
