Businesses have expanded operations, students can study at night, and communities are safer.

Fadma attends an MCC-funded functional literacy course in Agadir, Morocco. The MCC-Morocco Compact strengthened national literacy, especially for women and girls. The community-based and flexible hours design of the Functional Literacy Activity increased female participation in the program. As a result more than 61,000 enrollees learned to read, write, do arithmetic, and perform other life skills.

Female carpenters modernizing Malawi’s infrastructure to promote economic growth by rehabilitating, and upgrading the power system. The MCC-Malawi Compact prioritized women’s economic empowerment through the Infrastructure Development project, training 241 women in various skills such as first aid, working at heights, firefighting at the work place, public relations, industrial nursing, carpentry and bricklaying, surveying, steel fixing, printing, office automation, environment and gender equality, health and safety in the workplace, and monitoring.

MCC’s programs—designed and implemented in partnership with the countries themselves—tackle constraints to economic growth and include work with governments to address policy and institutional reforms that are responsive to the needs of their citizens.
