The Renewable Energy Services Company (RESCO) model scale-up mitigated sustainability risks commonly associated with small, remote off-grid projects and may be considered by MCC in the future. The RESCO implementation model locates power generation (solar panels) at schools and clinics where they could benefit from foot traffic of potential users, more professional and regular day-to-day management while still allowing for interspersed benefits (lanterns and batteries provided to users). The evaluation found this model to be viable in Indonesia as the RESCO that services these assets for a fee had already been established by another donor and with MCC-supported grants allowed them to achieve the scale they needed to balance costs and revenues.
