Lesson Learned

The risk of “training fatigue” should be considered in the design of projects, as well as incentives for teachers and staff to participate in these trainings.

The risk of “training fatigue” should be considered in the design of projects, as well as incentives for teachers and staff to participate in these trainings. The number of teachers and principals participating in the gender-equality training fell short of the goal of 1,400 despite solid support and ownership from the Ministry of Education. Not only were teachers saturated with training, but they also did not perceive an additional benefit to participating in the gender-equality training as they did with content training. Teachers perceived that the training in English would enable them to improve their “rank” and attain a higher salary. When implementing education projects and delivering training, MCC should incorporate incentives for participation in training that may not be immediately perceived as leading to improved professional conditions/opportunities.
