MCC’s 20th Anniversary Media Toolkit

In January 2024, MCC celebrates 20 Years of Reducing Poverty Through Economic Growth.

In 2004, President George W. Bush launched the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), a U.S. Government development agency employing innovative, cost-effective, and data-driven approaches to reduce global poverty.

MCC partners with countries committed to just and democratic governance, economic freedom, and investing in their populations. Over the past 20 years, MCC has invested nearly $17 billion in aid across 47 low-income and lower-middle-income countries across six continents, with programs estimated to impact 380 million people globally.

    MCC trains smallholder farmers to boost #agriculturalgrowth & livelihoods. In Morocco 🇲🇦 , certain practices caused soil erosion. With support from @MCCgov, farmers learned to plant more sustainable crops like olives & other fruits 🌳.

    MCC works with partner countries to promote #agriculturalgrowth by providing small-holder farmers, like Haijiba, the knowledge and skills they need to enhance their livelihoods. With training and support provided by the @Millennium Challenge Corporation, Hajiba and other farmers learned to harvest more valuable crops like olives and orchards under the #Morocco Compact. In addition to helping farmers to diversify to more valuable crops, the compact also:

    • ✅ Trained more than 40,000 farmers in innovative harvesting practices 👨‍🌾👩‍🌾
    • ✅ Rehabilitated about 55,000 hectares of existing, rain-fed fruit tree orchards 🌳
    • ✅ Planted nearly 62,000 hectares of new orchards on land formerly dedicated to wheat production
