MCC CEO Daniel Yohannes Participates in Global Chiefs of Mission Conference

Washington, D.C. — The U.S. Government’s Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Chief Executive Officer Daniel W. Yohannes met today with U.S. Ambassadors and Charges d’ Affaires from around the world at the first-ever Global Chiefs of Mission Conference at the U.S. Department of State.


Mr. Yohannes participated in a panel discussion on the importance of collaboration between U.S. agencies and embassies in advancing U.S. interests around the world. Other members of the panel included senior leaders from the U.S. Departments of Treasury, Homeland Security, and Justice.


“In the context of the President’s Global Development Policy, we are all responding to the call for more purposeful and strategic collaboration,” stated Mr. Yohannes.  “As the head of a development agency, I am extremely delighted that development is a top priority for this Administration.” 


The panel discussion explored the benefits of intergovernmental coordination, as well as the challenges it can pose in the global context.  Mr. Yohannes shared his views on MCC’s productive working relationship with U.S. chief of mission in MCC partner countries, stating, "While our partner countries take the lead in developing and implementing our grant programs, our diplomats’ leadership, communication, and management of complex issues helps make these projects a success.”


The conference, hosted by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, includes more than 180 serving Ambassadors and Charges d’ Affaires from nearly every U.S. diplomatic mission around the world.
