WASHINGTON, D.C., Nov. 5, 2015 – Millennium Challenge Corporation CEO Dana J. Hyde today released the following statement on the advancement of MCC authority to pursue regional investments. The House Foreign Affairs Committee today passed HR 2845, the AGOA Enhancement Act of 2015, which would provide MCC with this authority. The bill also seeks to enhance transparency around AGOA and encourage trade capacity-building activities in sub-Saharan Africa.
“As a leading contributor to the U.S. government’s efforts to support trade capacity building in Africa, MCC is particularly pleased to see the AGOA Enhancement Act move forward today in Congress.
“A key component of the AGOA Enhancement Act will provide MCC with authority to pursue regional compact agreements that reach beyond borders and help create regional markets. With this new authority, MCC will be better positioned to strengthen regional integration with investments that have even greater potential to promote widespread growth, fight poverty, and improve lives around the world.”
