The Gambia Threshold Signing Ceremony

November 19, 2021

The MCC Threshold Program with The Gambia is focused on supporting the country’s electricity sector, including critical policy and institutional reforms to develop more effective, accountable, and transparent governance for the sector, as well as improved operations. The program is the result of hard work by The Gambian government, private-sector, international partners, and civil society organizations.

Negotiations for this threshold program were concluded during the COP26 and The Gambia is among a small group of countries that are close to achieving full compliance with the Paris Climate Accord. Specifically, this program will support The Gambia’s efforts to achieve universal energy access by 2025, prioritizing imports and renewable energy sources—especially domestic solar generation—helping the country meet its Nationally Determined Contributions to curb greenhouse gases.
