Use caution when relying on complimentary investments from funding sources external to MCC. Following the MCC upgrade to the N1 Highway, a “Phase II” was planned by the Government of Ghana. This investment would have improved safety (in particular pedestrian safety) and reduced congestion on along the road. However, this planned investment (which included additional pedestrian overpasses, parallel service lanes and grade-separated junctions at the remaining intersections to reduce congestion) has not yet taken place, reducing the possible benefits to the MCC investment in the N1.
