Training should be both theoretical and practical. The evaluation found that training focused mainly on theory and there was a gap in the practical experience needed for the students to fully grasp the concepts. The training was intended to be on-the-job, with repeated and longer-term exposure to the necessary practical/hands-on skills. However, the Covid 19 pandemic resulted in the training being a one-time occurrence and virtual with only limited follow-up. This limited the training’s effectiveness. Future training programs should seek to include adequate and appropriate hand-on training to build technical skills.
