Future fisheries projects should consider possible consumer benefits, including food quality, safety, nutrition and health benefits. The evaluation found that fish quality improved in project sites. While the evaluation did not assess food safety, nutrition, and health benefits, this finding suggests households may now benefit from better access to higher quality and safer fish products. Fish consumption in Morocco has risen in recent years, which could have been an important achievement. However, MCC did not prioritize this benefit in the project logic or economic model and the potential effects of food quality, safety, nutrition, and health benefits were not evaluated. Future project teams should review the literature on food consumption, safety, nutrition, and health benefits of fisheries projects for consideration in future project logics and economic models.
