Lesson Learned
Design drains with enhanced safety in mind. As noted in the evaluation, residents reported accidents resulting from uncovered drains, particularly during times of fast-moving water. Cost was a consideration in designing open drains; future programming should consider the potential hazard of leaving the drains open in its design and investment criteria. Higher cost may be justified to enhance safety.
