The application of new technologies to collect monitoring data can be useful to assess the achievement of results. This evaluation was one of the first to use water pressure loggers to validate household survey responses about water supply over the two weeks prior to the household survey. These loggers were a cost effective way to precisely measure supply changes. Technologies, such as remote sensors and smart meters, increasingly offer relatively inexpensive ways to monitor projects and results and should be used, as appropriate, for more M&E functions. MCC M&E is now piloting new monitoring technologies across multiple countries and in a variety of sectors.
