To ensure sustainability of infrastructure investments, utility staff need to be trained adequately on equipment operations and maintenance as part of the handover of infrastructure. MCC should pay greater attention to training utility staff on operations and maintenance of new equipment and have a better plan to hand over equipment to ensure sustainability of the asset. In the case of Tanzania, there should have been a better understanding of why the utility was not maintaining their existing assets and had poor performance of service delivery in the first place in order to calibrate the design of MCC’s investment.
