Closed Compact Report: Lesotho Compact

Closed Compact Reports are published for compacts completed before November 2017. The reports capture core information such as the country context, descriptions of compact investments and results, and information on important partnerships, policy reforms and lessons learned

  1. In July 2007, MCC and Lesotho signed a $362 million compact focused on the water and health sectors and encouraging private sector development.

  2. Lesotho is a landlocked country surrounded by mountains and the country of South Africa.

  3. The Health Sector Project was designed to strengthen the health care system and its ability to deliver quality services.

  4. The Private Sector Development Project aimed to stimulate private sector activity within the country by improving access to credit, reducing financial transaction costs and increasing the participation of women in the economy.

  5. The Water Sector Project was designed to support Lesotho’s vision to provide secure, adequate, sustainable and clean water supply and sanitation services to rural and urban consumers.
