Washington, D.C.—The U.S. Government’s Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) has released its 2010 Annual Report summarizing the agency’s progress in the fight against global poverty.
MCC is committed to delivering results for American taxpayers. By partnering with developing nations that embrace accountability and country-ownership, MCC is working to replace poverty with prosperity, while at the same time promoting American strategic and economic interests.
Since its creation, MCC has put into practice the principles that are at the heart of the President Obama’s pioneering U.S. Global Development Policy. MCC is a key contributor to the President’s new global development agenda.
"MCC’s 2010 Annual Report highlights the important work that MCC is doing around the world in our efforts to reduce poverty through economic growth,â€� stated MCC CEO Daniel Yohannes. "At a time when we all are having to do more with less, MCC investments are making a significant difference in the lives of poor people around the world, while delivering results for the American taxpayer.â€�
The 2010 Annual Report provides a status update on all MCC programs worldwide and outlines MCC’s efforts to pursue partnerships that will help ensure the sustainability of MCC projects. The report includes positive preliminary results from the first two MCC compact programs that have been completed — the Cape Verde and Honduras compacts.
